Excelsior’s Patriotic Spirit helped shape the Appaloosa and Harlequin breeding program at Elderwood Farms in Millington, Tennessee. Although Spirit has been sold, his genetic line remains firmly represented through retained offspring and another generation of spotted cria. We had a hard time parting with this boy, and his descendants remind us why! During his time here, we appreciated Spirit’s masculine presence, strong conformation, and tremendous fleece density. His show career began as a mature male, when judges commented on his fleece brightness and the handle he had maintained with age. He earned four first-place ribbons, including wins in both halter and fleece at the 2018 AOA National Show. Bentwood Alpacas Peruvian Calliope brought show-ring success, distinctive Harlequin Appaloosa markings, and a proven production record to Elderwood Farms in Millington, Tennessee. Her speckled face caught our attention, but her conformation, fleece quality, and patterned offspring gave us even more reason to bring her home! Calliope was later sold into retirement, with two spotted daughters retained to continue her genetic line. Calliope earned Color Champion at the 2009 Great Western Alpaca Show and three first-place ribbons. Her contribution went well beyond her own show career, with Appaloosa and Harlequin offspring that have continued producing another generation of patterned alpacas. Her pedigree connects directly to Curly Calib, featured in our Appy Archives. Calliope’s dam, Dewey Meadows Peruvian Ariel, was an Appaloosa daughter of Curly Calib, making Peruvian Platinum Calliope’s maternal great-grandsire. Stillmeadow Farm Blizzard is a proven white Huacaya alpaca herdsire whose influence is backed by both an exceptional show record and an increasingly impressive production record. Blizzard earned 15 championship banners, 28 first-place ribbons, Judge’s Choice, Best Crimp, and Get of Sire honors while competing in halter, walking fleece, and fleece. His fleece statistics further set him apart. Blizzard carries a true adjusted density of 90.08 follicles/mm², compared with a Huacaya average of 58.49. His skin biopsy also showed almost no medullation in his secondary fibers. Dr. Norm Evans noted that Blizzard was only the second Huacaya he had evaluated to show few medullated primary fibers, where most show 100% medullation. Blizzard is a son of TGF Apocalypse, a multi-banner-winning Snowmass Elite Legend son, and TGF Snow Drop, a Snowmass Sub Zero daughter and proven producer of champions and Judge’s Choice winners. His greatest impact, however, is through his offspring. During the 2025–2026 show season alone, Blizzard progeny earned a National Supreme Championship, 8 Judge’s Choice awards, 17 Championships, 14 Reserve Championships, a Best Bred & Owned award, and 3 National Invited Champion honors.
