For this branch of Appaloosa genetics, one thing is sure - Golden Touch's Easy Rider was an Appaloosa and currently represents the earliest documented animal wihtin his line whose Appaloosa phenotype can be confirmed through registration records, photographs, and production.

Unlike some influential Appaloosa and Harlequin lines that seem to have a definite spotted beginning, Rider's story raises some questions around where his appaloosa genetics originate. Available records suggest the spotted genetics likely originate from his maternal family. Rider's dam, Golden Touch's Cover Girl, also proudced a Harlequin daughter from a different sire, providing additional evidence that these genetics likely stem from her. Though there are several possiblities, the available information is not yet sufficient to determine where the trait originates within U.S. documentation.

Although his breeding career was brief, one Harlequin daughter continued his line, allowing this uncommon branch of spotted genetics to remain represented within the modern registry.

Equally significant is the production record of his dam, Golden Touch's Cover Girl, who also produced a Harlequin daughter from a different sire, Golden Touch's Tiger Lily (deceased). Together, these records suggest an inherited matleranl line carrying spotted getnetics that predates Rider himself.

Golden Touch's Easy Rider never had the opportunity to become one of the industry's most widely used Appaloosa herdsires. His breeding career ended after producing only four registered offspring. Even so, his legacy extends beyond those numbers.

Rider represents an early documenting point in a family whose spotted genetics are not completely clear. Documented coloring and some patterning information points towards his maternal line - specifically his maternal grandsire, HFL Anthony, his maternal great-granddam, TDR Alpine Amber, and his maternal great-great grandsire, Dewey Meadows Sangria.

Whether the trail ultimately leads to HFL Anthony, TDR Alpine, Dewey Meadows Sangria or an even earlier ancestor remains unknown. For now, Golden Touch's Easy Rider represents a first documented chapter in a story that is still unfolding.
