AA-013: WT Gold's Paiute

by Brandon Sigler

A Line Carried by One Daughter

WT Gold’s Paiute was a distinctly spotted Appaloosa Huacaya whose documented legacy rests with a small family. His historical photographs show well-defined fawn spotting over a white fleece, but his importance extends beyond his appearance. Through one daughter, his branch continues into another generation of Appaloosa alpacas.

Only two registered offspring are currently identified from Paiute. His son, Rocco Cloud, was solid and has no documented offspring. His Appaloosa daughter, ELWD’s Totally Bewitched, became his only documented producing offspring and the connection between Paiute and every currently identified grandcria in his family.

That continuation includes Appaloosa grandchildren ELWD’s Without a Hitch and Elderwood’s Twitch Craft. Paiute’s story is therefore one of limited direct production, a narrow surviving branch, and a daughter whose contribution kept that branch moving forward.

Historical Significance

Paiute represents a small but continuing branch of an established patterned maternal family. His dam, Incan Samantha, was herself Appaloosa, and her pedigree connects Paiute to Peruvian Platinum, an earlier ancestor being investigated through Appy Origins.

At Elderwood Farms, Paiute was valued for more than his spotting. His historical profile described him as a full Peruvian, 5/8 Accoyo Appaloosa with substantial bone, a square build, and fleece displaying tight, high-frequency crimp. That profile also recorded first places at the 2007 OABA Alpacafest, 2007 AOBA National Alpaca Show, and 2006 New Mexico State Fair Alpaca Show.

The timing of his daughter’s birth adds an important detail to his history. Totally Bewitched was born on April 21, 2019, just fourteen days before Paiute’s recorded death on May 5. She subsequently became his only documented offspring to reproduce. The daughter born shortly before his loss is therefore the animal through which his registered family has continued.

Appy Origins Connection

Paiute’s maternal pedigree provides an exact route to Peruvian Platinum:

Peruvian Platinum → Incan Samson → Incan Samantha → WT Gold’s Paiute.

This connection is particularly useful because it passes through Incan Samson, rather than through Curly Calib, another Platinum son already documented in The Appy Archives. Paiute therefore represents a different offspring branch beneath the same earlier ancestor. Incan Samantha and Paiute are both confirmed Appaloosas, while Samson’s own pattern has not been established in the material reviewed.

The presence of patterned descendants through different Platinum branches supports investigating him as a likely ancestral contributor. It does not establish Platinum as the single source of Paiute’s pattern, and the other ancestors within those families remain relevant to understanding its inheritance.

Production Record

Current AOA records identify two registered offspring from Paiute, born in 2016 and 2019. Of those, Totally Bewitched is the only confirmed Appaloosa and the only offspring with registered production.

Her four documented cria include two Appaloosas, extending Paiute’s family through animals born as recently as 2025. All currently identified grandcria descend through this one daughter.

Rocco Cloud

Male

Dark Fawn

Born July 26, 2016. No registered offspring currently identified.

ELWD's Totally Bewitched

Female

Appaloosa

Born April 21, 2019, out of FPC Peruvian Aiko. Paiute's only documented producing offspring and the dam of four registered cria, including two Appaloosas.

The registered relationships and birth dates above are documented in Paiute’s descendant record.

The Totally Bewitched Branch

Totally Bewitched carries more than one important patterned family. Through Paiute, she descends from Incan Samantha and Peruvian Platinum. Through her dam, FPC Peruvian Aiko, she traces to TGA Mario, Senna’s Zoey, and 6Peruvian Century.

That mating brought together two documented patterned lineages. Totally Bewitched is therefore both Paiute’s only known producing offspring and part of the continuing Aiko family already preserved in The Appy Archives.

Her four registered offspring are Paiute’s currently documented grandcria:

  • ELWD’s Ghost Hunter – White male, born November 5, 2021
  • Elderwood’s Phantom – White male, born October 12, 2022
  • ELWD’s Without a Hitch – Appaloosa male, born September 4, 2024
  • Elderwood’s Twitch Craft – Appaloosa female, born October 9, 2025

Without a Hitch and Twitch Craft extend Paiute’s ancestry into another generation of Appaloosa alpacas. Both descend through the same Totally Bewitched branch, and both also carry Aiko’s patterned ancestry. Their pattern should therefore not be attributed to Paiute alone. The AOA descendant record establishes these four relationships and birth dates; the pattern classifications reflect Elderwood Farms’ documentation of the animals.

Legacy

Paiute’s legacy is concentrated rather than widespread. His only documented son has no registered production, while his daughter has carried the family into a subsequent generation that includes both white and Appaloosa offspring.

The distinction is important: Totally Bewitched preserves Paiute’s particular branch, not the entirety of Incan Samantha’s or Peruvian Platinum’s broader families. Paiute was one of Samantha’s offspring, and her other branches require their own research. His individual contribution nevertheless remains identifiable through his daughter and her descendants.

For Elderwood Farms, that makes Totally Bewitched’s role especially meaningful. The pairing of Paiute and Aiko preserved a continuation of his small registered family while bringing it together with another documented Appaloosa and Harlequin lineage.

Archive Summary

WT Gold’s Paiute was an Appaloosa Huacaya male whose maternal pedigree traces through Incan Samantha and Incan Samson to Peruvian Platinum. His historical record includes show recognition, but his place in The Appy Archives rests primarily on the survival of his small descendant family.

Only two registered offspring are currently identified. His Appaloosa daughter, ELWD’s Totally Bewitched, is the only one documented to have reproduced, making her the sole known route of his continuing registered line. Her offspring include Appaloosas ELWD’s Without a Hitch and Elderwood’s Twitch Craft.

Paiute’s story illustrates how a single producing daughter can preserve an individual herdsire’s branch after his death. What began as a very limited production record remains represented in a newer generation.
