An Appaloosa Matriarch

Incan Samantha was an Appaloosa female whose production established several patterned branches within her family. Of her ten registered offspring, five were Appaloosas, produced through matings to three different sires. Her influence continued beyond that first generation, with additional Appaloosa and Harlequin descendants identified through three of her sons.

A granddaughter of Peruvian Platinum through Incan Samson, Samantha represents a documented patterned family within an earlier ancestral line being investigated through Appy Origins. Her significance rests on her own Appaloosa phenotype, repeated patterned production, and the different paths her descendants followed. 

The family includes both visibly patterned animals and non-patterned intermediaries. Following those relationships reveals a broader history than any one descendant can tell, with Samantha positioned at the beginning of the family examined in this Archive.

Historical Significance

Samantha’s production is notable because her Appaloosa offspring were not confined to one sire pairing. West Texas Gold’s Nugget and WT Gold’s Paiute were by Sir Maximillian, WT Gold’s Bodacious was by FRA Cochise, and Spot Me Five and Spotz A Poppin were by KA Peruvian Accoyo Cannonball. These five Appaloosas include two full-sibling pairs and represent patterned production through three different sires. 

Her later family developed through several routes. Nugget, Paiute, and Spot Me Five each have identified patterned descendants, while Incan Lakota and FC Wind on the Mesa also contributed registered offspring without Appaloosa or Harlequin descendants currently identified in their reviewed branches.

Samantha’s historical importance is therefore at the family level. She produced multiple Appaloosas, and several of those animals established branches in which pattern appeared again. Her record provides a documented example of a patterned female whose contribution remained identifiable across different matings and subsequent generations.

Appy Origins Connection

Samantha’s paternal pedigree provides a direct route to Peruvian Platinum:

Peruvian Platinum → Incan Samson → Incan Samantha. 

This is distinct from Platinum’s branch through Curly Calib, already documented in The Appy Archives. Samantha belongs to the Incan Samson family, giving the Platinum research another descendant route to examine rather than another animal within the Calib branch. Samson was registered White, but his own Appaloosa or Harlequin phenotype has not been established in the material reviewed. 

These separate patterned families make Platinum a meaningful ancestor to investigate as a likely contributor. The pedigree establishes Samantha’s relationship to him, but it does not establish Platinum as the single source of the pattern. Samantha’s own phenotype and production provide the documented starting point for following this particular family forward.

Production Record

Samantha’s ten registered offspring were born between 2003 and 2014. Five are confirmed Appaloosas, and five have registered offspring of their own, although those are not the same five animals. Incan Lakota and FC Wind on the Mesa reproduced, while Appaloosas WT Gold’s Bodacious and Spotz A Poppin have no registered offspring currently identified. 

Her producing offspring account for 17 documented grandcria. Five of those grandchildren are identified as Appaloosa or Harlequin, with three additional patterned animals in the great-grandcria generation. These later patterned descendants occur within the Nugget, Paiute, and Spot Me Five branches.

Three Patterned Descendant Branches

Samantha’s identified patterned descendants extend through three sons. Each branch contributes something different to the documented family, from pattern appearing through a non-Appaloosa intermediary to several patterned grandchildren produced by one son.

West Texas Gold’s Nugget

Nugget’s family continued through his daughters, Jasmine’s Dream and Dreamland’s Sabrina Fairchild. The patterned descendant currently identified in this branch is a daughter of Jasmine’s Dream:

• White Pines’ Magic Megera - Appaloosa/Harlequin great-granddaughter of Samantha, through West Texas Gold’s Nugget → Jasmine’s Dream. 

Jasmine’s Dream was not identified as Appaloosa or Harlequin in the reviewed material. This branch illustrates why documenting Samantha’s patterned legacy requires following the family beyond the appearance of each immediate offspring.

WT Gold’s Paiute

Paiute’s daughter, ELWD’s Totally Bewitched, produced four registered offspring, including two Appaloosas. This gives Samantha one identified patterned granddaughter and two patterned great-grandcria through this son:

• ELWD’s Totally Bewitched - Appaloosa granddaughter.
• ELWD’s Without a Hitch - Appaloosa great-grandson, through ELWD’s Totally Bewitched.
• Elderwood’s Twitch Craft - Appaloosa great-granddaughter, through ELWD’s Totally Bewitched. 

Spot Me Five

Spot Me Five produced eight registered offspring, four identified as Appaloosa or Harlequin. His branch accounts for four of Samantha’s five identified patterned grandchildren:

• Sweetheart’s Painted Daisy - Appaloosa/Harlequin granddaughter.
• CrossBone Anthrax - Appaloosa/Harlequin grandson.
• Four Corners Brandywine - Appaloosa/Harlequin granddaughter.
• Four Corners Last Warrior - Appaloosa/Harlequin grandson. 

No additional registered offspring are shown beneath these four animals in the reviewed record. Their presence documents patterned continuation into Samantha’s grandcria generation without establishing that each has produced a subsequent generation.

Legacy

Samantha established a family that continued through more than one offspring and more than one type of descendant. Her five Appaloosa offspring demonstrate repeated patterned production across several sire pairings, while the later descendants show three separate routes through her sons.

Not every branch continued visibly patterned animals. Some offspring have no registered production, and others produced descendants currently identified as solid or classic grey. Those animals remain part of Samantha’s history, even when they are not included in the confirmed Appaloosa and Harlequin counts.

Taken together, the records preserve Samantha as a producing Appaloosa female with an identifiable multigenerational family. The most recent confirmed patterned descendants in the reviewed material were born in 2024 and 2025, extending that family well beyond her own lifetime. The other parents within those later matings remain relevant to interpreting pattern inheritance, but Samantha’s ancestry is documented through each of the three branches.
