Golden Touch’s Easy Rider brought bold Appaloosa pattern, soft fleece, sound conformation, and an easygoing personality to our Huacaya breeding program at Elderwood Farms in Millington, Tennessee. FPC Peruvian Aiko • Harlequin Alpaca • Elderwood Farms
FPC Peruvian Aiko was a much-loved Harlequin Appaloosa Huacaya female whose influence continues throughout our patterned breeding program at Elderwood Farms in Tennessee. We loved her beautiful head, long staple, and soft, bright fleece with coverage from head to toe. What she produced gave us even more reason to treasure her. Aiko joined us unproven through a herd dispersal. As TGA Mario’s only registered offspring, she represented a distinctive genetic line tracing through Senna’s Zoey to 6 ...

Details
Elderwood’s Voodoo Queen, known here as Queenie, is a Harlequin Appaloosa Huacaya female. This girl was such an awesome surprise! We love it when they are covered from head to toe in spots.

We bred FPC Peruvian Aiko to Golden Touch’s Easy Rider hoping for a heavily patterned female, and Queenie was exactly what we hoped for. She combines two different spotted families and gave us an eye-catching Harlequin with plenty of pattern of her own.

Queenie has since proven that she can pass it on. Her first two daughters, ELWD’s Voodoo LaRoux and Elderwood’s Voodoo Veil, are both spotted. Roux is a Harlequin by Illini’s Deuces Wild, while Veil is an Appaloosa by Irish Meadows’ Crescendo. Seeing Queenie produce spotted daughters by two different sires has made this family even more exciting for us.

Queenie is one of three daughters we retained from our late Aiko, along with ELWD’s Totally Bewitched and Elderwood’s Maybe It Was Memphis. Each is by a different sire, giving us three different branches through which Aiko’s genetics continue in our herd.

Aiko was a Harlequin and the only registered offspring of Appaloosa TGA Mario. Her maternal line continues through Senna’s Zoey and 6Peruvian Century. Queenie’s sire, Golden Touch’s Easy Rider, brings another documented Appaloosa family into her pedigree along with his own unique story. Read more about Aiko, Easy Rider, and the history behind Queenie’s maternal line in The Appy Archives.
